2013
A brilliant student in a new school—the art department, S.S.2B—is trying to settle into the new environment and make new friends.
One day, we had mathematics class, and the teacher asked a very simple question that no one could answer, aside from the new girl. I was the new girl, I did answer the question and pass all my math assignments, and the teacher was proud of me, of course, and in his words
"If you all don't sit up, this new girl will start topping this class".
I mean, where I came from, we no dey carry last. no need to brag or struggle; I came to collect the first position from the person holding it. #Chukcles
While settling in and trying to update my notes, I was also observing people in my class, when a tall dark girl walked up to me.
"Hi, you must be the new girl." I could spot the fake accent she was trying to impress me with. She has a very cute small eyes and lips, when she smiled I spotted a very nice diastema.
Obviously, I am. I said it in my head with a smile and a sarcastic look.
"My name is Akoleowo Elizabeth. I've heard a lot about you, and I'd love to be your friend."
"Hi, my name is Favor; it's nice meeting you."
"It's my pleasure," she said, then walked back to her class.
She was a science student, so she took classes in S.S.2A. She was intelligent and very brilliant at mathematics. We got along quite well. We became noisemakers (they infected me badly), she came over to my house for assignments, we bonded nicely, and we sang in class together. We were stubborn and loud; she was my spirit animal, but she doesn't have the heart-to-chest cane like I did when we get in trouble. We went to Jamb lesson together, and it was when we had our first physical fight, which I won, but keep an eye out for her response in the comment to contradict this news. She no dey ever agree say I beat her #lmao
Few years later, I realize she is one of the best people God has placed in my life. We share many common interests and goals. We are both pastor's daughters; we are both devoted believers in God's word; we both love fashion; we attended different fashion schools to learn how to sew; but guess what? We're not even putting it into practice. We're both in business now, and so on. We usually have a good time whenever we get together, cause there is so much to chat about. I'm extremely open with her. I adore how she compliments and encourages me. She can be a bully at times, especially when I am misbehaving. She has a way of bringing me to my right senses.
Elizabeth sends me warm wishes, supports me when I'm feeling sad, and prays to God for my well-being. I've witnessed Elizabeth make sacrifices for me. When I am facing issues or doubts in my life, she kindly supports and instructs me. We've cried together in our worst moments, and we end up encouraging ourselves in the Lord. She shares what she has with me without expecting anything in return. She feeds me whenever possible, spends time with me, and patronizes me. She follows me to the market to buy things for the shop. She introduces me to others, regardless of the occasion or gathering.
I recall one day on the bus, we were having a casual discussion, and a lady who had been listening turned to look at us, smiling. We were puzzled why she smiled, so she introduced herself. Elizabeth picked up the conversation. “Oh! Meet my friend; she is a content creator who also enjoys spoken word and podcasting too; You should connect with her, She's very good at what she does”. How awesome is that? I've seen her blast my trumpet countless times; she believes in me more than I do in myself.
It's a great privilege to watch Elizabeth's love, service, and adoration of me. It was a great fate, I must say. I have never been a perfect friend, yet I feel this kind of affection from them. I used to enjoy making friends and just seeing them when they needed me or when we had extremely big events. At the end of the day, I got hurt by a number of people. But Elizabeth came around; she stayed (despite my petty behavior) and taught me how to slow down; she taught me that it was good to allow other people to love and care for me as well. I cannot take this woman for granted. I love and care about you; and I want to see you happy.
Note for you my reader:
As you love and breathe, never get so used to the people who bring color to your life that you forget to appreciate them.
This is me, giving my best girl her flowers cause she's deserving of it.
